Summary

Professional outfits need professional sites - and unfortunately the existing site in this instance looked old, failed to work properly, and generally felt dead. We, of course, changed all that.

Description

Trees. Greenery. Life. Positive vibes should have been coming from the website, yet the reality was that the site was suffering. Aye, ailing. Problems included:

• a non-operational contact form, preventing potential customers from emailing
• the use of frames, which adversely impacted search engine results
• a dark, melancholy colour scheme

Time to get working on the fixes!

Design

So how did we go about improving the look of the site? Primarily, the black border was ditched and replaced with a white background. Together with a lighter yet powerful shade of green, the site's positivity - if that doesn't sound too pretentious - was visibly boosted.

Of course, we didn't just change the colours. We introduced a random image and quotation selector, which randomly selected a picture and tree-related quote on each page. The quotes went down well, as testified to by a site user!

Code

We initially used the relatively modern XHTML 1.0 as the markup language. Later we updated the code to XHTML 1.1.

As usual, for the styling of the pages, we used CSS. The navigation bar made use of CSS to enable explanations for each link to appear below. For the contact form, and for easily of updating the site in the future, we used PHP, as is usual with us.

Search Engine Promotion

With a good-looking site in place, we went about the task of gaining more vistors to it. Google Adwords was suitable and proved successful in boosting site enquiries.
